(i)The Samaritans early broke away from the Jews and began the transmission of a Hebrew text of the Pentateuch on an independent line which has continued down to the present day.

(ii)
Early Syriac material often provides much information concerning the original Hebrew text.

(iii)
The translation into Latin known as the Vulgate preceded the Massoretic text by some centuries, and was made by Jerome, who was noted as a Hebrew scholar.
But Augustine thought it
sacrilegious not to be content with the Septuagint.

(iv)
The Greek translation known as the Septuagint was made from Hebrew manuscripts current two or three centuries before the Christian era.
It is from this version that most of the quotations in the New Testament are made.

(v)
Three other Greek versions were made long before the establishment
of the Massoretic text.
The most important of these was one by Aquila, who was so punctilious that he transliterated the
word Jehovah in the old Hebrew characters, instead of translating it by the Greek word meaning Lord as was done in the Septuagint.

Classify why luke is described as the universal Gospel?

Luke makes clear that the gospel was addressed not just to the Jews but to all without distinction. He speaks of Jesus as the “friend of sinners” and of outcasts.

He says that the Son of Man has come to seek and save what is lost (Luke 19:10).

The parables and miracle accounts in Luke emphasize the compassion of Jesus to sinners and to those who suffer, his patience, friendliness, and desire to seek out the lost (the parable of the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost prodigal son).

Luke shows great concern for the poor.“
The poor have good news preached to them” (Luke 7:22). He alone tells the Parable of the Rich Man and poor Lazarus (Luke 16:19-31).

Luke gives reference to the universal scope of the church (see Luke 2:14, 32; 24:47).

Luke speaks of the Samaritans as models of charity and gratitude (Luke 10:25-37 and Luke
17:11-19).

Luke shows Jesus giving approval and praising Gentiles for their faith (Luke 4:25-27; Luke 7:9).

He quotes Jesus’s words, that “men will come from the east and west, and from north and south, and sit at table in the kingdom of
God” (Luke 13:29).

sins are forgiven, we should seek truth and commit to it.

(iii)Humble ourselves as little children:- Consider how open a little child is to being taught. Watch a child’s utter dependence on his parents for everything and see the kind of faith and trust we should have toward God.

are to love God with all our hearts and love our neighbors as ourselves and also keep others commandments of God
