United States international Landon Donovan has announced he will quit football at the end of the current Major League Soccer (MLS) campaign.
Donovan, 32, is the US men’s national team (USMNT) record top scorer with 57 goals in 156 appearances.
He spent most of his 15-season career playing for MLS clubs San Jose Earthquakes and Los Angeles Galaxy.
He made 22 appearances for Premier League cub Everton in two loan spells and also featured in five Bundesliga matches on loan at Bayern Munich.
The American forward scored a total of 6 goals in 21 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen, between 1999 and 2001.

Donovan told La Galaxy’s official website: “After a careful deliberation and conversations with those closes to me, this will be my last year as a professional.
He added: “I feel incredibly blessed and lucky to have played a role in the remarkable growth of MLS and US Soccer during my playing career.
“And while my career as a player will soon be over, I will stay connected on many levels to the beautiful game.”
Donovan was omitted from Jurgen Klinsmann’s US squad for the World Cup in Brazil.
The MLS regular season is scheduled to end in October.
