Yemi Alade, who emerged Best Female Artiste at the just concluded 2016 MTV Africa Music Awards, has indirectly reacted to the recent comment by President Buhari that his wife belongs in his kitchen.

Multi-award winning Nigerian afropop singer, Yemi Eberechi Alade, popularly known as Yemi Alade, who gained prominence after winning the Peak Talent Show in 2009, and is best known for her hit single "Johnny", was over the past weekeend, crowned the ‘Best Female Artiste in Africa’ at the 2016 MTV MAMA Awards in South Africa.

While receiving her award trophy on stage, on Saturday night at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg, the sensational singer, indirectly reacted to the recent comment by President Muhammadu Buhari that his wife belongs in his kitchen which sparked up media controversies across the country.

As though reacting to the President’s outburst, Yemi Alade said, “Give it up to all the African women in the building.

“We’re not meant for the kitchen alone, we are not meant for the living room alone, we are not meant for the other room alone.

“We are hardworking women and we belong to the society too. If not, I won’t be here receiving this award,” she quipped.

Meanwhile, it was a big night for Nigerian musicians as Wizkid walked away with three major awards namely: Artist of the Year, Best Male and Best Collaboration, co-host, Yemi Alade took home Best Female, Patoranking won the song of the year, and Tekno was named Best Break-through Act.
