The ongoing Benue South Senatorial rerun
election has been caught up with violence as an
APC agent gets slashed with broken bottle.
Some suspected political thugs used pieces of broken bottle to inflict injury on an agent of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Otukpo.
According to DailyPost, the victim, Agbo Icha Emmanuel, had escorted the ballot box along with INEC officials from INEC office in Otukpo, but on getting to Idabi polling booth at Otukpi- Icho where election was to take place, some
political thugs tried to snatch the ballot box.
In the process of preventing them, he was
attacked on the head by one of them. But for the timely arrival of the police, he would have been killed.
Meanwhile, the perpetrators were said to have escaped into the bush.
Reacting to the incident, the Benue State
Deputy Governor, Engr. Benson Abounu
described the incident as unfortunate, but noted that security agents have been drafted to the scene to forestall any recurrence.
