President Muhammadu Buhari has
appointed Abuja-based lawyer and
gender activist, Maryam Uwais, as his
Special Adviser for Social Protection
Plan.
It was learnt that Mrs. Uwais, who is
wife of a former Chief Justice of
Nigeria, retired Justice Muhammadu
Uwais, was appointed weeks ago.
9iceunity notes that President Buhari
has made social welfare one of the
cardinal focus of his administration
and the appointment of Uwais is seen
as a major step towards proper
implementation of programmes in that
regards.
Mrs. Uwais, a highly respected lawyer
with over 30 years’ experience, has
been deployed to the office of Vice
President Yemi Osinbajo, where she is
coordinating the administration’s
social protection schemes, including a
N60billion micro-credit scheme for
artisans and market women expected
to take off once the 2016 budget is
passed by the National Assembly.
Until her appointment, she was
Principal Partner, Wali-Uwais & Co.,
an Abuja-based law firm.
